LG Chem joins Vida Circular to strengthen sustainability in Mexico
LG Chem and Vida Circular formalized a strategic alliance that seeks to drive sustainability actions and promote the circular economy in Mexico. This union represents an important step to integrate the global chemical industry in local conservation and environmental culture initiatives.
Who is LG Chem?
LG Chem is a global chemical company based in South Korea, which has developed a strong sustainability strategy under the name RE:ACT TO ZERO", aiming to achieve carbon neutrality, foster the circular economy and promote responsible supply chains.
This strategy focuses on the adoption of renewable energies, the development of environmentally friendly materials, zero waste initiatives and the promotion of environmental awareness through concrete actions.
LG Chem and Vida Circular: a partnership for conservation
The alliance between LG Chem and Vida Circular was officially presented at the "Ruta de la Amistad" sculpture corridor, south of Mexico City. During the event, teams of collaborators from Korea, Colombia and Mexico participated in ecological restoration activities at the sculpture "Articulated Wall", by artist Herbert Bayer, located in the Cuicuilco archaeological zone.
Activities included the removal of African grass, an invasive species that affects the local ecosystem, and the creation of "life bombs", spheres made from clay, soil, compost and native plant seeds that are used to reforest and restore green areas. These actions reflect the partnership's practical approach: combining technical knowledge and community action to protect biodiversity.
For LG Chem, this collaboration represents an opportunity to actively contribute in Mexico. "For us, Mexico is a very important market and therefore, we want to contribute with actions to promote the sustainability of the country and the region where we operate," said Mr. YT Park, Sales Director VP of LG Chem America Inc. during the presentation.
From the perspective of Vida Circular, this union strengthens the network of allies committed to environmental transformation. "LG Chem joins our mission to promote the circular economy, raise awareness about materials and strengthen a network of allies committed to transforming resources into impact," said Sandra Gazca, spokesperson for the platform.
A sustainability strategy with a vision to 2050
For LG Chem, this collaboration is an integral part of its overall sustainability strategy. The company recognizes that while plastic has brought great benefits to everyday life, it also represents a significant environmental challenge. It has therefore set clear goals towards 2050 to actively promote the mechanical and chemical recycling of plastic waste, seeking to create a virtuous cycle of resource circulation.
This vision is aligned with the objectives of Vida Circular, which since 2021 has been working together with resin producers, transformers, brands and consumers to strengthen awareness of materials and encourage more sustainable habits in Mexican society.
