ADIPLAST drives a green future with Circular Living

At Vida Circular, we joined forces with the Dominican Association of the Plastics Industry (ADIPLAST). Together, we want to change the way we use and dispose of plastic. We want plastic to be used responsibly and to help improve the planet.

We believe that change starts with responsibility and teamwork. We know that the circular economy is not just a fad, but something necessary. We want to invite everyone to join this change towards a model that cares for resources and the environment. With this collaboration, we want to reach more people and show the importance of every action and every consumption decision to build a sustainable future.

What is ADIPLAST and what is its mission?

ADIPLAST, founded in 2011, is a non-profit civil association that represents the plastics sector in the Dominican Republic. In short, it is responsible for defending the interests of this industry, ensuring that it evolves in a responsible manner both in the country and internationally. Its work is not only limited to managing the dialogue between the sector and the authorities; ADIPLAST is also committed to keeping the companies that are part of this industry informed and updated, offering them continuous training programs that strengthen their competitiveness and support their growth.

ADIPLAST's mission is to be that pillar of support for the sector, promoting innovation and development, but always with a focus on social and environmental responsibility. With a vision of integration, ADIPLAST seeks to represent the entire plastics industry in the country, promoting practices that raise sustainability standards and encourage an ethical commitment in all the activities of its members.

ADIPLAST and its impact on sustainability

It is important to recognize that the Dominican plastics industry has demonstrated a genuine commitment to sustainability, implementing various initiatives that promote the responsible consumption and disposal of plastics. This commitment has materialized in concrete actions, such as:

  • PET bottle redesign in 2019: An industry-driven self-regulation to improve product recyclability and encourage product recovery.
  • Collaboration in General Law 225-20: ADIPLAST played a key role in the drafting of this law on Integral Management and Co-processing of Solid Waste, marking a milestone in the regulation of waste in the country.
  • Plastics Training and Research Center (CCIP): In partnership with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM) and the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (INTEC), ADIPLAST inaugurated this center in 2022 to offer specialized training to drive innovation in the industry.
  • Biopacto 2023: An initiative to transition to the production of biodegradable expanded polystyrene, to be implemented starting in 2024, as a clear effort to reduce environmental impact.

These proposals reflect the sector's constant effort to align itself with the goals of sustainability and circular economy. The goal is to achieve a plastics industry that is not only innovative, but also responsible and aware of its impact.

Communicating your achievements

ADIPLAST doesn't just stop at doing things right, they also make sure people know about it. They communicate their initiatives through traditional media such as press releases and interviews, and they also use social media. In addition, they are working on a new communication strategy that they will launch at the end of 2024 to reach more people and generate greater impact.

The association works closely with entities such as the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD), NUVI, and other institutions to amplify its message. In this way, they ensure that good practices are adopted not only by companies, but also by consumers and authorities at the municipal and national levels.

ADIPLAST is committed to a sustainable future for the plastics industry in the Dominican Republic. Its focus on innovation, continuous training, and social responsibility ensures that the industry not only grows, but does so in a way that benefits both the environment and society.

This commitment, backed by initiatives such as the 2023 Biopact for the production of biodegradable expanded polystyrene, is just one more sign of how they are leading the way towards a greener and more responsible industry.

ADIPLAST joins Circular Life for a shift towards sustainability

This partnership with ADIPLAST is more than a collaboration between two organizations; it is a shared commitment to drive real, tangible change in our society. At Vida Circular we believe that partnerships have the power to generate a profound impact, and we know that ADIPLAST shares that vision. Together, we want to be an example for everyone, showing that, with effort and dedication, it is possible to build a circular economy that benefits everyone, from companies to every Dominican household.

This collaboration is, at heart, an invitation to responsibility and action. We know that change does not happen overnight, but we are confident that, with firm steps and well thought-out decisions, we can transform the plastics industry into a more conscious and planet-friendly sector.
