POST-CONSUMER RECYCLED PACKAGING
Consumers are looking for environmentally friendly packaging, including recyclable, compostable and post-consumer recycled (PCR) packaging, which is gaining popularity on the shelf.
Post-consumer resin (PCR) is an option that is being used to produce packaging in a sustainable way. This resin comes from the recycling of other containers, a bottle today can be made of different percentages of PCR resin from 20% to 100% depending on the product being packaged.
A recyclable package is one that has been designed with the appropriate characteristics to be recycled (Design Guidelines).
A compostable container is one that contains an additive that allows, under specific conditions of humidity and ultraviolet light, the plastic chains to break down and decompose. This process must be carried out in plants with specific conditions.
And a container with PCR content is one that has recycled resin in different percentages from other bottles.
When the materials can be processed and used again. Once the packaging is recovered, if it has the appropriate characteristics since its manufacture, it will enter a recycling process to obtain raw materials that can be reincorporated into other products.
